Safaricom launched M-pesa in some 36 months ago and the service has been a hit from the start,averaging 10,000 daily new users.The service has today over 6 million users and claims capital movement of over SH 152 Billion exchanged between users of the system.

The service allows Kenyan active economic agents  to transfer money fast, safely and affordably using their mobile phone. Through M-PESA, a customer can send money to another mobile phone user, withdraw cash, buy airtime for themselves or another prepaid subscriber, pay bills and make loan repayments.

The use of mobile phone technology in the provision of financial services is about to alter how shares are traded in Kenya. Standard Investment Bank is leading the way after launching a mobile phone based share trading service dubbed Easy Hisa. Through that service, an investor can make buy or sell orders and make follow up enquiries on their orders through their mobile handsets.

The Hello Money service is being offered currently in conjunction with Safaricom,kenya’s leading mobile network-the service will be extended to other mobile networks in due course. No money to support a conference on technology,which is one of the many gaps African economies need to close as fast as possible and then be able to contribute to the general creativity and innovation drive sweeping the planet.Hmmm

“In short, unfortunately I/we weren’t able to raise enough money through sponsorship to cover enough of the costs needed to make the financial risks tenable, which effectively means no conference this year.
