Mfonobong Nsehe :Jobberman started out only in 2009, but it’s already one of the most popular job sites in the African region. What’s been the catalyst for such rapid growth?

Ayodeji Adewunmi:If you are going to be huge in Africa, Nigeria must be a key part of your strategy. This is so true, ‘Africa is the gun, Nigeria the trigger’. So by sheer market size, we are addressing a very large and interesting problem. Nigeria is a large country, large working population, and internationally growing.

MN:The Nigerian web space is crowded with a legion of job sites and recruitment boards. What’s your comparative advantage? What does Jobberman do differently from Njorku, or any other classified websites for jobs?

AA: We’ve paid relentless focus to quality listings, anti-spam and products that people generally want.We are spending heavily offline and online on marketing, and increased significantly our budget for research and product development.

Quite recently, we have seen the surge in events organization such as the Barcamp Abidjan,YCD and now Summer E-school, do you see a particular trend with these type of events being organized by actors of the media and web industries?

Necessarily with the rate of internet penetration which is in constant growth, it is obvious that the industry of the media and Web is in competition. Moreover, we more and more speak about workers of Web (developers and producers of contents) as a corporation. In this way comes the necessity to organize such events with the aim to make the promotion of internet but especially to make previsions as far as this domain is concerned so that it can adapt itself to the evolution.

2. What do you expect to bring to the participants during the E-summer school 2011?

First, the question is to help the participants to enjoy the opportunities offered by the Web tools to optimize at a lower cost their activities. At the second level, we are going to exchange, discuss, share and organize meetings between the participants. The variety of our participants’ profiles can be an excellent asset for the development of Web, Information and Communication Technologies in Ivory Coast and even in Africa.

3. Tell us,twitter or Facebook,Gmail or Yahoo,Viado or Linkedin,Youtube or Dailymotion ,which one do you prefer ?

Our experience of the Web helped us to know that each of these tools is useful. So, we may prefer a network to another according to the type of activities we want to do, but especially according to the positioning in aim. In this way I may recommend Viadeo for a campaign with French entrepreneurs and LinkedIn for an anglo – saxone target.

Three things:pragmatism, serial entrepreneur, conversationalist.

2) What are your thoughts on the E Summer School event ?
Again a brilliant idea from Israel. I would love to see more initiatives like this one happening here. It’s also a good opportunity to share knowledge and experience,which as a conversationalist,I judge to be precede any action.

3) Barcamp Abidjan , YCD and now E Summer School, with all these events taking place in Abidjan, do you see a particular trend shaping up ?

Yes, I do and my only hope is that brands will understand and get involved . The organizers of such events showed that they can do more with less, and the hope is that they do much more with more.

4) What do you expect to bring to the E Summer School 2011 participants?

I want to share with them a new vision on the opportunities out there for young entrepreneurs, clever methods to output the best of what they’ve learned and the ways to connect with partners to start a success story as entrepreneurs.

I am social media and tech addict living online so don’t ask

1) What characterizes Arsène Dally?

I am legal adviser by profession and I’m very passionate about ICT. I think that there is a place for law in the cyberworld. To merge  law and ICT in my daily activities is my goal.

2) What are your thoughts on the E Summer School event ?

Concerning this event, I think that it’s very good to have these conversations on  ICT. Nowday, we  make use of ICT in every professional and social tasks we achieve. So to teach people,professionals how to best make use of it is a very good thing

Of course I do. Trends do not come without some events. We need to create sometime some events in order to provoke the trend.

4) What do you expect to bring to E summer school 2011 participants?

I will try to show the importance of not forgetting that web is just a tool in itself, and  that we must use it tour advantage ,not against ourselves. For this event, I work with the other co-founders (M. Hervé SIABA and M. Yacouba KONE) of  Critic Afric. I would like to thank them for their never ending efforts and contribution.

5) Tweeter or Facebook, Gmail or Yahoo… which one do you prefer to use ?

I prefer of course Gmail,moreover most of my friends and business contacts are on it. It’s easy to me to link with them.  I prefer Facebook. It’s very useful tool to build a important contact list and responsive network around the world

1]Typhus Ivory Coast is attached to Typhus Inc which is a wallony based corporation.What was the driven factors that guide your investment in this particular market ?Do  you really feel that the Ivorian market was ready for this kind of product ?

I would like to say ,first and foremost that, by its very nature the Ivorian market was suitable to our kind of service and products. There was an obvious need [to us] that was not being met by any other local or international company in this market.To have the ability to personalize an already personal item ,that in so many ways say who we are to others around us, is something that is very valuable to our customers.

2]  Do you feel that more and more people are willing to partake in the creation process of what they wear and are no longer willing to be dictated a particular style by fashion designers ?

That is not the full situation, it is only a part of it. We can however affirm that customers express of lot of surprise and joy to have this responsibility bestow on them.The full picture will show that while some are very enthusiastic and good at creating their own personal master piece ,another group of customers would rather receive the help and counsel from our staff.

3]How does Typhus Cote d’Ivoire communicate and engage the general public and customers about their products and services ? Do you opt fully for a more traditional approach relying mostly on TV,Radio and Newspaper commercials ? or do you include the use of the new social media tools such as social networks[Hi 5 and Facebook are big in Cote d'Ivoire] Video sharing site [so are Youtube and Dailymotion] Mobile marketing ?

When it comes to our communication style and agenda, we have been relying mostly on word of mouth until now. We are however ,at this very moment, creating a mass communication campaign that will use the traditional mediums-TV,Radio-Newspaper and magazine-

4]What are you long term goals ? Is expanding in the whole of the Scows market part of you long term vision ?

Of course ,as an any ambitious company, we would like to widen as much as we can our network of stores in the District of Abidjan during  a first phase, then to the key Ivory Coast urban centres[Bouake,Man, Yamoussokro,San Pedro,Abengourou]. A second phase would see our expansion in the neighbouring countries [ Ghana,Burkina,Benin,Senegal,Nigeria,]

5]What were your main worries and apprehensions when entering this market ?

We must admit a little scepticism was inhabiting us.Would the products and services be embraced as much as we thought that they were needed ? I think the quality of the shirts and t-shirts,polos and other material ,the right pricing and the involvement aspect in the creation of the products are all factors that greatly helped.

6] The average citizen of Abidjan carries themselves in a very fashionable and cool manner.How do you position your product “par rapport aux” European urban brands which are highly sought after by the consumers and the knockoffs or low priced imports[ from Dubai and China] ?

I think we fit right in the middle,we offer a quality product in a price bracket that makes it accessible to almost everybody.

7]How do you keep your design fresh and trendy ?Where do you get your inspiration ?

We keep an eye on the local and international current affairs as well as any underground or emerging cultural trend. We then pick and choose and see how we can manifest what we saw and how we understood it onto the T-shirt.

8] Would you like to be approached by plausible financial partners,investors,suppliers ?

Yes ! it is very important to us to find people that would help us take our company to the next level,whether they are suppliers,investors,workers and commercial partners.
